From March 31, 2023, to June 30, 2023, there will be a three-month extension on the deadline for linking PAN cards and Aadhaar cards. If you do not link your PAN and Aadhaar cards, your PAN card will no longer be valid. There are consequences if you don’t link your PAN and Aadhaar cards.
Aadhaar has already been connected to around 48 crore of the 61 crore PANs that have been issued to individuals, according to the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The Chairman has made it clear that those who do not link their Aadhaar with PAN would not be entitled for any tax benefits or business-related advantages.
NRIs, foreign nationals, seniors over 80 years old, and residents of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and Meghalaya are exempt from the requirement for PAN-Aadhaar connection. In order to make the tax payment system easy and to prevent tax cheating, the government insists on PAN-Aadhaar connection.
The advantages of linking your PAN to your Aadhaar
There is no longer a chance that one person might possess multiple PAN Cards. When Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the Income Tax Department is able to carefully identify all types of tax evasion.
People can go to the Income Tax Portal (https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/) to link their PAN and Aadhar as soon as possible if they have not already done so. Visit the official PAN Aadhaar Linking Check website to check your PAN-Aadhaar connection status if you are confused.
